You know, I really appreciate Hamilton’s (the musical. Or, as Darcy calls it, the operap. Opera-rap.) treatment of Maria. She wasn’t treated like a life-ruining seductress. Her actress played Maria as a desperate lonely woman. During the song in the live show, we see her read the pamphlets and freeze in horror. And during “Burn,” there’s this line (forgive my breaking of the lines. I’m no good at this) “you published the letters she wrote to you/you told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed/in clearing your name/ you have ruined our lives”. While “our” here could be read as “the Hamiltons,” it can also be read as inclusive of Maria. And, given that Eliza resolves to burn all the letters during this song, I think there’s an unspoken rebuke of Hamilton’s complete betrayal of Maria too. He used Maria’s letters to try to save himself. Eliza is taking away his power to ever to do the same with her (Eliza’s) letters. Again, that’s obvious, but I find Eliza’s compassion for Maria noteworthy and less obvious. It’s arguable but these are things I choose to read as signs.

also the use of “girl” instead of woman/harlot/etc shows elizas view of maria as almost a victim? “girl” implies that she is innocent, taken advantage of, didn’t know any better. eliza seems to regard her almost protectively idk
